Class Policies:

Arrival

  • Classes will be held in the Parish Hall at St. James’s Episcopal Church (at 1018 Farmington Avenue in West Hartford Center) with direct access through the white door adjacent to the parking lot. This is a large, ballroom-style space with high ceilings and windows for ventilation and air conditioning in the summer. There are a few steps leading up to the classroom. If you have a stroller in tow, feel free to leave it at the base of the staircase, as long as it does not block the way.
  • ALL parents and caregivers must show proof of full vaccination (+ 14 days) prior to entering their first class, including visiting relatives and caregivers. Negative results from a COVID test will NOT be accepted for entry. Acceptable proof of vaccination status is limited to CDC-issued COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card (picture or photocopy OK). Please be prepared to present a government issued ID along with proof of vaccination. Non-vaccinated parents and caregivers are welcome to check out our Music Together Outside or Music Together Online offerings for their family.
  • Please arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled class time to complete the check-in process and get settled before class begins.
  • Be prepared to take your shoes off and please bring minimal belongings into class as the only things you’ll need are yourselves and your singing voices!

Class Size

  • Classes are limited to a maximum of 8 families plus 1 designated make-up spot.
  • We recommend a maximum of two adults per family. If you have a special circumstance and would like to bring more than two adults one day (visiting grandparents, etc.) please notify us in advance (24 hours notice, please). Every adult attending class, whether regularly or for a special visit, must show CDC-issued proof of vaccine and ID as noted above.

Mask Policy

  • Masks are optional for all attendees.*
  • Please note that our teachers may choose to wear a mask at their discretion.

*Please note that if the number of Covid cases in our area spikes again, we will require all adults and children 3+ to resume wearing masks.

Social Distancing Procedures

  • 4’ x 6’ mats with a distance of 6 feet between participants will designate a spot for each family. Mats will be disinfected between classes. Families are welcome to bring a blanket and place it over the mat if desired.
  • While families will be sitting together on their own mat, many parents and caregivers are now feeling more comfortable allowing their little ones to interact with other children and adults during class. We are respectful of each family's comfort level and maintain a judgement-free atmosphere.
  • We ask all of our parents and caregivers to be active participants during class – not only in the music-making, but in helping everyone to feel safe and comfortable engaging in this dynamic, musical experience together. We always work to cultivate kind and considerate mini-communities in each of our classes and appreciate you being part of this effort!
  • Please be extra diligent about listening to the music and learning the songs of the current collection – it will help you and your child connect to the class experience more deeply.

What to Bring

  • We will be providing instruments and props, including individual play-along totes, for each family at every class. All instruments will be safely and effectively disinfected between use. If you would like to order some instruments for home that are commonly used in the Music Together program around the globe, we suggest the Family Instrument Set on the Music Together national website store.
  • Please do not bring food and drinks into the classroom. Nursing and bottle feeding are always welcome.
  • You may wish to bring grippy socks for your child(ren) or let them go barefoot as the laminate floors may be somewhat slippery in regular sock feet. We will have the windows cracked open for fresh air ventilation as long as the air conditioning is not on.
  • Please refrain from using your cell phone during class. If you'd like to take a quick photo or video of you and/or your child during class, please do so quickly and limit it to your family members only. Then be sure to put your phone away so as not to disengage from class with your child!
  • Your positive, playful, musical self and your love of being with your child, family and friends!

Bathroom

  • There will be a sanitized bathroom available to our class attendees inside the church. We recommend everyone uses the bathroom at home right before coming to class.

Absences & Make-Ups

  • If you need to miss class, please mark your absence in the Family Portal on our website. This frees up your vacant spot for a family wishing to schedule a make-up and also helps our teachers arrange the socially distanced family mats in the classroom appropriately.
  • We offer unlimited make-up classes during the Summer in our Music Together Outside and Music Together Online classes, easily scheduled through the Family Portal on our website.
  • If you and your family are at home sick, or simply would enjoy attending one or more of our Music Together Online classes via Zoom, you are welcome to schedule these on an unlimited basis through the Family Portal.

  • Do not come to class if anyone in your party is sick with any kind of illness. When you arrive at class, we will ask if anyone in your party has any of the following symptoms. If the answer is "yes" to any one of them, you will not be permitted to enter the classroom:

    • Within the past 14 days, has anyone in your party had a public health or medical professional tell them to self-monitor, self-isolate, or self-quarantine because of concerns about COVID-19 infection?
